Secret Santa HELP!

Halloween is in a couple of days, and as hard as it is to get my head around it, that means Christmas is just around the corner.

One of my very favorite things to do during the holidays is to particpate in Secret Santa exchanges with other book lovers/bloggers. Usually I do about 3 exchanges, but this year, I've only found one, hosted by Kate and Kristen at The Book Monsters. It's made me kind of sad because I really do enjoy doing the exchanges...

So I'm hoping you can all help me out. Are you participating in book/blogger Secret Santa this year? Are the signups still open? Leave me a link in the comments. Help me spread a little holiday cheer!

A Little Technical Help?

So for those of you who are technical people, I need a little help with Blogger.  About 18 months ago I updated my blog template to include my disclaimer about Amazon Associates links.  You see it as the small italicized script at the bottom of every page on my physical blog (I'm pretty sure it doesn't show up on any of my feeds).

Based on my announcement Thursday, I need to change the script to bring it up to date.  Problem is, I can't for the life of me figure out how I did it.  I've tried looking at my HTML template, my Design tab, and my Settings tab, and I can't find it anywhere.  I know it's not a template I set up, because then it would show up in my Edit box, and it doesn't.

Anyone know what I did?  HELP!

More Tech Help!

I have another tech-type question for all you savvy bloggers out there.  Sheesh, can you tell I'm working out some behind the scenes plans or what?  :)

Okay, so here's my question.  I've heard some people talk about using a template for certain posts, especially reviews.  Is there a way to save use a template for posts within Blogger?  Or is it just copy and paste from an older post and then delete/add as needed?

By the way, thank you to everyone who responded to my picture question last week.  I did get the help I needed, thank you so much!

Tech Help Please!

So I need some tech help from those of you out there who use Blogger. Pretty much everything I do with my blog is self-taught so I could use your help on this one.

For those of you who blog on Blogger, I have a question about using longstanding graphics. I'm thinking of those who use graphics for the review ratings, or if you have a picture for a regular feature like In My Mailbox or Waiting on Wednesday. How do you insert the graphic into your posts?

In the past in these situations I've just copy and pasted from another post with the same graphic. But it's a little clunky since I have to have 2 or 3 tabs open to do the new post. Is there an easier way to set it up, a shortcut of some kind? Or is that pretty much it? I don't want to upload it every single time I do a new post, since it takes up room in my blog storage, but is that the way I should go?

If you have any suggestions, tips, tricks, explanations, etc. for me, it would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

WHAT?!? Noooooooo....

So this may be old news for some of you (I'm still working through the last few days of blog posts in my reader) but I just found this out via Charlotte's Library.

Amazon.com has pulled all Macmillan books from their inventory over a dispute on eBook prices. Apparently Macmillian requested Amazon raise the prices of their ebooks to around 15 (instead of the regular $9.99 for a Kindle edition). Why the price hike? You can thank the new Apple iPad. The released details can be found in this New York Times article.

I am so upset. I get a lot of my books from Amazon.com because they only two bookstores that have good YA selection within several miles of my home is a Borders (15 minute drive) and a Barnes and Noble (30 minute drive without traffic). And lets just say although their selection is the best, they are usually about 2-3 years behind the new releases.

And some of my favorite authors publish through Macmillian. Their books include Henry Holt, FSG, Saint Martin's Press, and First Second Books among others. You may recognize them from a little vampire series called House of Night...? Yeah, that publisher.

Not. On. Amazon. Anymore.

What's a distraught bookworm to do?

Thanks again to Charlotte for the heads up.

ARGH! Or, Comment Spam

Okay, I really need some help here. I've been getting tons of comment spam lately from the same two or three offenders. This has been going on since before Christmas from these same three accounts, and I am done with dealing nicely.

Does anyone know if there is a way to block a specific user from commenting? I already have word verification on there, so that's cut down a lot on spam since I added it. But obviously these guys must be human since they get through that somehow.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm getting really frustrated here. I don't want to have to turn on comment moderation for all comments, but I guess that might be my only option if I can't block someone. I've tried Googling the problem, but it's not being very helpful (the only advice I can seem to find is to turn on word verification).

What do you do about spam comments?

I Can't Decide...Help!

So I had another idea this morning... Man! I've been on something lately...

Anyway, I can't seem to decide if this is something worth doing or not. I really like the idea of it, but I would hate for it to fall flat. So who better to ask than you, my readers?

This idea was inspired by a rather lengthy exchange between myself and one of my readers about a good book to take on a long summer trip. It was quite the challenge, and I had fun recommending books that would fit into the specifications she was looking for. So I thought, wouldn't this be fun to do on a regular basis.

Essentially, here's the gist of what would go on. After choosing some sort of theme/genre, I would have a "recommendation week" for that week's theme. The first post would be a list of books I recommend in that week's theme, and I would also ask for comments on your favorite recommendations. If I get my act together on reviews, I would also include at least one review throughout the week of one of my recommended readers. The week would end with a complied list of your recommendations.

So why would I want to do this? I love recommending books to people. I'm not sure why, but I always have. And although it's fun to do it through reviews, doing it in themes is fun too. Also, I think with a lot of blogs people tend to get caught up in the latest and greatest. And although I love recent buzz, I feel kinda sad that a lot of great older books get overlooked sometimes.

Anyway, that's the idea. What do you think?
