Happy Halloween everyone! My LOLs this month have been dedicated to Basement Cat in honor of this holiday, so I'm sure you're sick of him by now. So today I have a plain old regular no Basement Cat Halloween-themed LOL for you to enjoy:

Have a great Halloween everyone!

Bookmark Swap: Spread the Word!

We interrupt the pending Halloween holiday with a special announcement. Thank you to everyone who's signed up for the Holiday Bookmark Swap. It already looks like it will be a lot of fun.

So here's where I need your help. It would be wonderful if we could get as many people as possible to participate in this. To do that, I need to help spread the word. Whether you're participating or not, if you have a chance to post about this on your blog/Facebook/Twitter/whatever, I would very much appreciate it!

Now, you may have noticed the pretty little button I have over in my right sidebar. Well, you can grab it for your very own to post in a sidebar, forum signature, or wherever you can post HTML. Here's the code for it:

<center><a href="http://theshadyglade.blogspot.com/2010/10/holiday-bookmark-swap.html"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgof2tQMnYPKwS_JVHQIiGCLnrgRt-2IwWCOCkwF5UyMp8MAiURt_Wy4fhffamLQ1yS39OjYxzHT_dYxPuU5SHPnV4kLuxP48vBA-ZNuUo6tKIKYUZj0MJ-sKkLTbtfX4LGSaO-iQ/s320/holiday+bookmark+swap+small.jpg" /></a></center>

If anyone has trouble with the button, please let me know. And thank you again for helping get the word out, even if you're not doing the swap yourself. Every little bit helps, and this is going to be so much fun!

LOL of the Week(end): It Burns

It's almost Halloween, are you ready? In honor of the approaching holiday I not only have a new Basement Cat LOL, but this one has a hairless Basement Cat in the bargain.

Can you believe the look on his face? Yeah, that's the point where I would call animal control.

Or maybe an exorcist...

Come back Sunday for our Halloween LOLcat finale!

If you'd like to learn more about LOLcats, you can check out the website, or read my review of the book.

Have a great week!

Holiday Bookmark Swap

*Signups Now Closed* If you would like to join a future swap, send me an email at shadyglade(AT)mail(DOT)com and I'll put your name on my email list.

Happy Holidays!

My last bookmark swap in September was a lot of fun. I got a lot of great enthusiasm back from the participants, so we're going to do it again.

I know it's still only October at the moment, but the holidays are right around the corner. Christmastime is one of my very favorite times of year, so I thought it would be fun to do another swap in time for the holidays. It's always especially fun to get new packages in the mail around Christmas. :)

Rules:
Each swapper will be asked to send 5 bookmarks into the swap. In return, at the completion of the swap you will get 5 new bookmarks in the mail. This swap is open internationally!

Cost of registration is $3 for US swappers, $4 for Canada and Mexico, and $5 for any other international participant. This covers the cost of postage for the return package. Payment can be made via PayPal, or by cash in the mail at your own risk (for US only).

Sign Up Deadline:
To participate, you need to be signed up by Wednesday, November 24th. All packages must be mailed by no later than Wednesday, December 1st.

How to Sign Up:
If you are interested in swapping, simply enter your information into the form at the bottom of this post. Everyone who fills out this form will get an email from me within a few days giving them the full rules, details, and FAQs. This email will have the link to sign up for participation. It's a little clunky, but this frees up the blog from having super long posts full of information all over the place.

Selected Frequently Asked Questions:
Do the bookmarks have to be handmade?
No. You can buy your 5 bookmarks if you don’t feel comfortable making your own.

Do the bookmarks have to be holiday themed?
No. You can send themed bookmarks if you want, but it is totally up to you what you send into the swap. Christmas, winter, or everyday themed, it doesn’t matter.

If I’ve done a swap before, can I do it again?
Sure! We’d love to have both new and returning swappers participate. Returning participants will have to pay the swap fee again (since it covers postage), but we’d love to have you join us again.

Do “swag” or other advertising bookmarks count towards the 5?
Although swag bookmarks are fun, they do not count for this swap. You are more than welcome to include some swag in your package (and if you do you will probably also get some back) but you will still be required to contribute 5 other bookmarks to the swap.

How many bookmarks will I receive in return?
You are guaranteed at least 5 bookmarks, the same number as you sent out. In the past we had some generous swappers who also included swag and extra bookmarks in their packages, so I was actually able to send more bookmarks back to people than they sent in. But this totally depends on what your fellow swappers send in. Either way, you will get 5 bookmarks no matter what.

To see one example of some of the bookmarks we had last time, check out this post.

To get started, make sure you fill out the form below.

How To Get Free Books: Part 6 Delayed

Hey everyone,

I know today was supposed to be Part 6 of How to Get Free Books. Unfortunately I don't have time to put it up today. We've been slammed with a large case at work and I'm scrambling to get it down before the end of the month. So Part 6 has been delayed until next week.

In the meantime, I'm trying to clean out some stuff myself and am offering a lot of books for cheap right here. You can read all about it here.

See you next week!

Waiting On Wednesday: 10.27.10

I was searching for something ghost-related since Halloween is coming up soon. And this is about as close as I came. Apparently I'm just not a big ghost book person...

Wake Unto Me by Lisa Cach

About the Book (from Amazon.com): "Caitlyn Monahan knows she belongs somewhere else. It's what her dead mother's note suggested, and it's what her recurring nightmares allude to.

Desperate to flee these terrifying dreams--and her small town--she accepts a spot at a boarding school in France. Only, when she arrives, her nightmares get worse.

But then there are her amazing dreams, so vivid and so real, with visits from an alluring, mysterious, and gorgeous Italian boy from the 1500s. Caitlyn knows they are soul mates, but how can she be in love with someone who exists only in her dreams?

Then, as her reality and dream world collide, Caitlyn searches for the real reason why she was brought to this school. And what she discovers will change her life forever.

From the Back Cover
I see him in my dreams, this mysterious boy.
He comes from
a different time,
a different place,
a different reality.

But there is something that connects us.
We are supposed to be together--bound by the heart of another.
But that's not possible... or is it?"

Sounds creepy and yet intriguing all at the same time. And I love the eeriness of the cover.

Wake Unto Me will be released on March 31st, 2011. In the meantime, it is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com:

LOL of the (mid)Week: Threats

See, I told you Basement Cat might show up for some weekday laughs this week. Here's something to get you through the week:

And that's why you should never give Basement Cat a bath. You might end up regretting it later.

Will Basement Cat strike again this week? Maybe... you'll have to wait and see. :)

If you'd like to learn more about LOLcats, you can check out the website, or read my review of the book.

Have a great week!

Books for Sale

*Last Edited on 1/2/11*

Well, it's happened. I've finally aquired enough books that my bookshelves have reached almost cirtical capacity and I've run out of room to add more bookshelves. So it's time to get rid of some books, and my family has informed me that I am currently not allowed to trade for anything until I can get rid of a certain number of books.

Since I'm not allowed to trade, and my library is not currently accepting donations, I'm offering the following books for sale. It will help clear up room on my shelf, and it will help me offset some of the postage costs from sending out prizes on the blog. Because more postage money = more prizes, which is always a good thing.

So here's how it will work. If you see something on this list you'd be interested in buying, send me an email (shadyglade(AT)mail(DOT)com) and let me know. I'll be updating this as offers start to come in.

Prices are $1.99 for any paperback, and $2.99 for hardbacks + the cost of postage.

Shipping will be done via Media Mail for US addresses, since it's much cheaper. Shipping is determined by the weight of the books. If you'd like to know beforehand how heavy something is that you're interested in, let me know and I'll weigh it for you. Shipping costs also include delievery confirmation, so you can track the package while en route.

Shipping costs
Up to 1 pound $3.18
1-2 pounds $3.57
2-3 pounds $3.96
3-4 pounds $4.35
4-5 pounds $4.74
5-6 pounds $5.13
6-7 pounds $5.52
7-8 pounds $5.91
Above 8 pounds, you can email for a quote.

I prefer PayPal as a method of payment, which requires a credit card. Anyone who can't do PayPal, send me an email (shadyglade(AT)mail(DOT)com) and we'll work something out.

Almost all of these are either new or like new condition. I take very good care of my books. I will confirm condition of every book before shipment, so you'll know exactly what you're getting before you pay for anything.

If you have questions, feel free to email. And without further ado, here's the list of the books for sale:
